non-profit edgewater castle football club launches

Community, Inclusivity, Access, and Development Are Focus of New North Side Soccer Team

Chicago, IL, April 21, 2018– Edgewater Castle FC is formed and developed as a community access point to the world’s most beautiful game. Our players come from all over the world and from various walks of life, but they all have one thing in common: They are proud to represent the North Side of Chicago in amateur club-level soccer. As a 501(c)3 non-profit, ECFC is committed to circumnavigating the traditional “pay to play” model, where players from the youth level on up are expected to front the enormous financial cost of team sports. Operating with a unique community-ownership model, ECFC puts the game itself in the hands of the vibrant Edgewater & other North Side supporters we represent.

“Edgewater Castle Football Club is built to fill some of the gaps created by the current American Soccer system. Too many players and fans aren’t valued, and we want to do as much as we can to change that by  bringing the game to more people in as many ways as possible. Soccer is perhaps the greatest culturally unifying invention in human history. America’s relationship with this invention has thus far been complex, unique to the rest of the world and in many ways inaccessible to large percentages of our most soccer-devoted citizens. That being said, America’s passion for Soccer is greater now than ever, as more and more people from all regions of the globe continue to put down roots in the United States, and bring with them their enthusiasm for and knowledge of the beautiful game. American Soccer is not perfect, and it must be strategically and intelligently changed over the course of natural evolution. Edgewater Castle Football Club will put great effort towards creating a new path for players, supporters and potential enthusiasts, with the beautiful game as our tool,  Chicago is one of America’s greatest cities; hustling, big shouldered and striving at all times for a better tomorrow and today. We want to put that ideology into a soccer club built for all Chicagoans. Thank you for your time and your consideration."

The club organization will serve as an umbrella for hosting free community pickup games, special club events, and, of course, the opportunity for our team to play against other city and regional club teams with an eye toward developing our ties with our neighborhood supporters and the skills and careers of our players.

Edgewater Castle FC: Community, Representation, and Joy in the Beautiful Game.
