Men’s First Team Takes Down Chicago City Dutch Lions FC 7-0

CHICAGO — The Edgewater Castle FC Men’s First Team defeated Chicago City Dutch Lions FC Saturday afternoon, 7-0. Goalkeeper Aidan Crawford recorded a shutout for the Rooks in his fourth match appearance this season and was successful in keeping the Dutch Lions on their losing streak.

First Half
An early corner kick for Edgewater came in the third minute by Enzo Dagatti, and it found Tobias Wimmer’s head and sent it directly into the left goal post and out of bounds. In the same minute, Rui Reis took another corner kick directed towards Ameer Abdullah, who hit it into the net for the first goal of the match.
Following a steal from the Dutch Lions defenders by Abdullah, Murtadha Kamil shot from the top of the box and into the bottom left corner of the net. This gave the Rooks a 2-0 lead in the 11th minute and his first goal of the Midwest Premier League season.
Play remained in the middle third of the pitch, with the Rooks creeping up for two attempts by Roberto Cardano and Eduardo “Lalo” Aguilera, each caught by the Dutch Lion’s’s keeper. Reis was awarded a free kick after a tackle from the Dutch Lions in the 22nd minute, which was headed away by a defender, creating a back and forth, ultimately dominated by the Rooks.

The Chicago City Dutch Lions had a shot opportunity blocked by Nicklas Kanzock. Dagatti kicked the rebound down field and found Kamil, who passed it to Reis and — all alone on a breakaway — shot from the right side of the box and into the right side of the net for a 3-0 lead for the Rooks.
In an attempt to get the ball out of their zone, a Dutch Lions defender’s pass was intercepted by Aguilera and found Rooks newcomer Qudus Lawal for a shot on the left side and into the net for a 4-0 Rooks lead during the 36th minute.
A shot in the 40th minute by Reis was caught by the Dutch Lions’ keeper. Two minutes later, the Dutch Lions took their second shot of the match, going left of the net and picked up by Crawford. Lawal’s attempt in the 43rd minute was stopped due to an offsides call and the Rooks went into halftime ahead 4-0.
Second Half
Following a Dutch Lions goalkeeper change to start the half, the Rooks were awarded a corner kick, which went far away from the players to the other side of the field for a Chicago City Dutch Lions throw in.
While facing more defensive possession, the Rooks were able to hold the Dutch Lions scoreless and shotless. A Cardano shot in the 53rd minute was deflected by the Dutch Lions’ keeper and out of bounds for a Rooks throw in.
At the tail end of the 55th minute, Crawford sent a long inbound pass to Vidar Rydell who shot it into the net from the right side for a 5-0 Rooks advantage. Abdullah attempted his second goal of the match, which was shoved away by the Dutch Lions’ goalkeeper, resulting in a corner kick for the Rooks.

Gino Miranda was awarded a free kick after a foul from the Dutch Lions and kicked the ball right into the wall of Dutch Lion defenders.
Lawal received a cross from Rydell in the 62nd minute and took his time in front of the net, finding an opening and sending the ball into the back of the net for his second goal of the match. This put the Rooks ahead 6-0.
The Chicago City Dutch Lions recorded their first shot on target of the match in the 65th minute with a shot from the left midfield. Crawford caught the arching pass at the net and released it for an Edgewater possession.
Frustration built for the Chicago City Dutch Lions as the Rooks maintained possession with multiple free kicks and shot attempts.

In the 82nd minute, Abdullah and a Dutch Lions player each received a yellow card for pushing and shoving which occurred on the right corner of Edgewater’s goal line. Another yellow card was given to a different Dutch Lions player in the 84th minute, after Reis went down following a tackle.
Another yellow card was given to Darrell Turcios in the 85th minute for a rough tackle on a Dutch Lions player. A third Dutch Lions player received a yellow card in the 89th minute following a tackle of Kamil.

Reis scored his second goal of the match in the middle of the 90th minute, off of a pass from Kamil. The Dutch Lions’ goalkeeper attempted to make the diving save, but the ball had enough momentum to trickle into the bottom left of the net, giving the Rooks an extra insurance goal at 7-0.
At the end of the match, the Rooks outshot the Dutch Lions 15-1 on target, with the Rooks attempting 28 throughout the match.

The Men’s First Team heads on the road for their next match against Berber City FC on Tuesday, July 1st. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Dunbar Park, located in Chicago’s South Side.
