The Rooks opened the match by dominating ball possession. However, despite efforts by Kily Egan and Lauren hall with opening corner kicks and free kicks respectively, DeKalb's defense were ready to react to the Rooks' offensive plays. Molly Pistorius, Katharine Stephens, and Jocelyn Leigh all had early chances as well, but DeKalb's goalkeeper was up to the task.

In the 27th minute, Pistorius shot a cross from the right side of the field, which found Stephens’ head right in front of the net, who then sent it into the back of the net, giving the Rooks a 1-0 lead.

Edgewater and DeKalb County continued a back and forth of free kicks and unsuccessful shots, sending the Rooks into halftime leading 1-0.

The second half opened slow for both teams, with the first action coming in the 50th minute when the Rooks fouled, awarding DeKalb County a free kick. ECFC’s goalkeeper Lucy Clark wasn’t tricked as she made the save.

Following multiple missed shots from both sides, Pistorius opened the 58th minute with a shot deflected by a DeKalb defender and, just under a minute later, Clark made a diving save to stop the DeKalb press. Following an offsides call against DeKalb, a pass from Lucy Tang to Kelsey Hamm went out of bounds.

In the tail end of the 65th minute, Leigh, standing right in front of the net, received a cross pass from Stephens on the left side, and put the ball in the back of the net for a 2-0 Rooks lead.

The Rooks continued their offensive moves but DeKalb consistently resisted their set pieces.

In extra time, Murray got a pass in the middle and made a quick turn, shooting the ball from the right side into the back left corner of the net. DeKalb’s goalkeeper attempted a diving save, but failed, giving the Rooks a 3-0 advantage and the win.

Head coach Emma Woodley said the team is keeping up their momentum going into their last two games of the regular season.

“A lot of times, you might want to start scouting the other team, see what they’re up to,” Woodley said. “We do a lot of that but also, we just really focus internally on what’s going on in our team, things that we feel like we need to focus on. We just really focus on our identity, as opposed to focusing on the other team, I think that’s really worked out for us.”

The Women’s First Team returns home for Acorns Day, a double-header where both Edgewater Castle’s Men’s and Women’s First Teams take Hoyne Field. The women are slated to take on Crystal Lake Force at 4 p.m.
